Be Patient

Hebrews 6:15 And after waiting patiently Abraham received what was promised

Susan Lucci was nominated for the Daytime Emmy award for Best Actress Lead, and can you guess how many times she was nominated? Susan was nominated 18 times! In 1999 on her 19th nomination she won! Before she could win she went through teasing some called her the Queen of Daytime without a crown. She never gave up what she loved acting she kept moving forward. She did not try to manipulate the outcome she waited patiently.  What about you?

Are you waiting on a promise that God has given you and not seeing not happening you want to give up. Do you want to say to God that this isn’t happening so I don’t believe that it was a promise from you!

I know I have been there and I can tell you that God keeps his word for in Hebrews 6:18 God did this so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged.

You know that when God promise something He does not lie about such things because when He says I promise he makes a vow. He keeps showing you, keeps sending witness to show that this will happen. There are two men in the bible who knew that God had a promise for them and went in two different directions; Abraham and David.

You may know the story of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar. I am going to give the very short version but for the full version read Genesis 16, 18, and 21. Sarah was old could not have children she was barren. Many years ago God promised Abraham that he will give him a son through Sarah. Now fast forward Sarah was like in her 80’s it looked impossible. She convinces Abraham that the promised child was not to come through her (even through the LORD said yes) and gives to Abraham Hagar. Hagar becomes pregnant, takes in Sarah bitterness and anger, and gives birth to Ishmael. This was not God promised. Abraham because of Sarah impatience believed Sarah and not God promised word. Years later God did come through with his promise Sarah at age 99 gave birth to a son Isaac and made Abraham send away Ishmael. Look to this day what all that anger and bitterness created because of the rushness to make the promise happen.

Now let’s look at David again you can look in 1 Samuel 15-24. David was a shepherd one day he gets anointed to be Israel’s next king. He defeated a giant, married Saul’s daughter, life was good. Until Saul wanted to kill David, and kill him Saul did try. David was on the run with loyal men. Then not once but twice David had the chance to kill Saul. The LORD told him not to do so, but David’s men was not sure because if David killed Saul then he would become king and fulfilled the LORD promised. David trusted the LORD to bring this promise not men, and look how God blessed David.

Two men, two promises, with two different reactions. Abraham rushes the promise and the true promise was delayed. David waited patiently for the day to become King and was blessed.

What is the situation that is making you want to rush the promise from God? Can you today trust God today that He will fulfill the promise that He has given?

When the waiting of the promise becomes too much to bear it is the time to give it to God. You say God I can’t hold on any longer will you hold it for me. Guess what, He will and who knows maybe that’s what God has been waiting for you to do.

In the midst of waiting be patient. In the midst of waiting be getting yourself ready. In the midst of waiting be praying and seeking God.

Do not become impatient. Do not take matters into your own hand.

Trust the LORD and not your eyes, hears, heart, and man. God said it, and it will happen.
