Jesus and Waiting

Matthew 24:36 No one knows about that day not even the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.

Recently I turned 30, and something really bizarre happened to me, I started to get the “you need to hurry up and get married and have kids” talks and looks. You know what, that is something is not good to hear and doesn’t help at all! What it does for me and probably for other women who are single and really want to get married is the feelings of loneliness, hurt, self-check (not the good one), heartsickness,  bitterness, desperation, or anger at God. That is not a place that a woman should be in at all but for some of us we go into that place with the help of others and forget all about God.

Then I started to wonder if Jesus understood what I (and many of us) am going through maybe advocate to God that it is getting harder to bear.

As I was listening to a message by Louie Giglio he said that as you wait God is waiting with you. I was like okay sure. Fast forwarded to a message from Francis Chan on Waiting in Faith he was talking about the End days but as he was reading Matthew 24 and when he got to verse 36 and read it, it clicked. Jesus is waiting just as I am to claim His bride (me a groom).

What! You mean Jesus is waiting to claim His bride. You know what, he certainly is waiting. See Jesus knows who his bride is. He wants her, to be with her once again. He has to wait patiently for the time when the Heavenly Father says go. Now does that not sound familiar? See my sisters and brothers we are waiting on an earthly mate and it is hard at times to wait.

In Isaiah 34: 16: None of these will be missing, not one will lack her mate; For it is his mouth that has given the order and his Spirit will gather them together. It is God who will give the order for when we are ready. It is God who will bring you and the second together. Sometimes we wait what we think is a long time, but maybe because you are not ready, maybe the other person is not ready. Maybe the reason that Jesus can’t claim his bride yet is that she is not ready in God’s time.

Know this Jesus knows what is like to wait and do so patiently. He knows when you are feeling alone, scared, even hurt. He was here on earth with his bride and he had to leave her. Can you imagine what He is feeling? I wonder how often does he turn to the Father and ask is it time, and wait for an answer or no answer.  When we ask God is it time yet, we have to wait for an answer or even the answer of not yet? Sometimes it is like really God not yet!

You know the saying WHWJD (What would Jesus Do?) we have to be like Jesus and wait patiently until God gives the order. We have to wait until God gathers you and the second together. We don’t know the time or the hour only God knows. He knows what you are going through, he understands, he sees his Son go through it too. Unlike Jesus who submits beautifully, we scream, we run, we sin. If we can be like Jesus when God says not now, submit to him saying whatever your will is Father I’ll do it, instead of screaming at God throwing your fist at God and then going your own way. How much better will we be for submitting?

When you hear “you better hurry up” a good response is don’t talk to me talk to the Father in heaven. When you hear “you better hurry up” a good response is why don’t you join me in prayer to the Father and then set me up with someone (if you trust the person in the latter, if not join me in prayer will do).

When you hear of someone getting engaged and your heart is hurting go into praise to the Father and cry if you need too.

When you hear God doesn’t understand what you are going through, Jesus knows exactly what you are going through.

When you hear Jesus is waiting with you, know that He is because is waiting for his bride as you are waiting for your second.

Prayer:

Dear Father thank you for waiting with me in this time. I don’t always understand why it is taking so long, but I wait for your timing. As I am waiting please help me to rejoice with others, to keep moving.

In Jesus Name Amen.

  1. I love this post! I’m not single but I know what it’s like to wait for your “second” to get right! Lol. It feels like an eternity and the process is excruciating because while we feel like we are just waiting, God is actually preparing; He is preparing us to be that Proverbs 31 woman. Jesus is seated in the heavenlies waiting for us his bride; we are here on the earth being molded and shaped and groomed…prepared. Great word Crys!
